The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired center Hassan Whiteside from the Miami Heat in exchange for center Meyers Leonard and forward Maurice Harkless, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
“Portland gets a starting caliber center on an expiring deal as it awaits Jusuf Nurkic’s return from a serious leg injury,” Wojnarowski wrote. “Blazers offseason: Whiteside, Kent Bazemore, retain Rodney Hood and draft Nassir Little. Another Western contender loading up.”
The Heat have actually been looking to trade Whiteside for the past several seasons, and Whiteside reportedly wanted a trade after opting in to a $27 million contract earlier this month.
Whiteside, 30, averaged 12.3 points and 11.3 rebounds in 72 games last season. But he started just 53 of those and averaged 23 minutes per game, a season low during his time in Miami.
The Heat, meanwhile, are working on finalizing another trade, for Philadelphia 76ers star swingman Jimmy Butler.
