Notes from Day 4 of Cavaliers training camp.

J.R. Smith’s absence has been noticeable

LeBron James says he hasn’t been involved in the contract negotiations between Cleveland and the veteran guard, but he’s visibly irritated to have to deal with the same situation for the second year in a row.

As far as head coach Tyronn Lue is concerned, he doesn’t think Smith will be too far behind considering his experience with the Cavs’ system.

But he knows he’ll be behind when it comes to conditioning and being in game shape.

Iman Shumpert apologizes for arrest over summer

Earlier this month, it was reported that the 26-year-old swingman was caught with marijuana while driving back from his friend’s house in Atlanta in August.

Visibly remorseful, Shumpert said that he couldn’t get into the details due to an ongoing legal process, but said he was sorry.

Once the incident is behind Shumpert, he will play a crucial role for the Cavs on both ends of the floor.

Shumpert told reporters Friday that he had dropped 12 pounds in order to play with a lighter feel. He also worked on some things over the summer to improve his game.

Both LeBron and coach Lue know the importance of Shumpert’s contributions this season, and the pair is expecting improvement in multiple areas.

Kevin Love is exhausted from questions about his role & hearing trade rumors

With the proverbial monkey of the team’s back and a championship win in the rearview mirror, it would figure that the concerns around Love’s contributions would disappear, right?

Not so much. It seems that those rumblings will always surround the 28-year-old power forward– and while it used to bother him, let’s say he’s taken a care-free approach to it by now.

“Frankly, I really don’t give a shi**.”

Love was a little more forward than usual with those answers, and he’s clearly focused on what’s next.
