Ex-NBA guard Telfair nearing deal in Italy

Sebastian Telfair has played for eight NBA teams in 10 seasons.

Former NBA guard Sebastian Telfair is putting the final touches on a contract agreement with Italian club Acqua Vitasnella Cantu, Amico Hoops has learned.

Telfair, 31, was drafted out of high school by the Trail Blazers with the No. 13 overall pick in 2004.

He is 6-foot-0 and considered a New York City schoolboy legend, but never quite lived up to the hype. His NBA career consisted of stints with the Blazers, Cavaliers, Celtics, Suns, Timberwolves, Clippers, Raptors and Thunder.

Telfair is the cousin of former NBA point guard Stephon Marbury and spent last season playing in China.

Should he sign in Italy, he would join a team that includes former Akron standout Romeo Travis and ex-Purdue forward JaJuan Johnson.

Travis played on the same high school team as Cavs star LeBron James (St. Vincent-St. Mary), and the two remain close.

Telfair compiled averages of 7.4 points and 3.7 assists in 10 NBA seasons.
