Hornets name Kupchak new president, GM

Mitch Kupchak will be named president and general manager of the Charlotte Hornets this week, according to a report.

As expected, Mitch Kupchak will be the new man in charge of the Charlotte Hornets.

The team made it official in an announcement early Sunday night.

Kupchak, a former college star at North Carolina, also team owner Michael Jordan’s alma mater, is a former Los Angeles Lakers executive.

The Hornets announced in late February that general manager Rich Cho, in the final year of his contract, would not be brought back.

Kupchak spent nearly four decades in the Lakers organization, beginning as a player in 1981, then 30 years in the front office, the final 17 as the man in charge.

He was dismissed in February 2017, 19 days before Magic Johnson came back to the Lakers in an executive role.
