Magic sign free agent guard Johnson to camp deal

Former La Salle guard B.J. Johnson has signed with the Magic after a season in the G League.

The Orlando Magic have signed free agent shooting guard B.J. Johnson, president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said in a release from the team.

Johnson spent last season as a rookie with the Lakeland Magic, the franchise’s G League affiliate. He is 6-foot-7 and went undrafted out of La Salle.

He appeared in six games with the Atlanta Hawks and one with the Sacramento Kings, compiling NBA averages of 3.3 points and 1.1 rebounds. He averaged 15.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in the G League.

Johnson, 23, is likely on an Exhibit 10 contract and headed back to Lakeland, though potentially with some guaranteed money from the parent club.
