Mavs’ Carlisle on Jordan: ‘He’s going to be great’

Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle met with his new center DeAndre Jordan in Los Angeles on Wednesday and can’t wait to get the 2018-19 season started now that the high-flyer is on board.

Jordan signed a one-year, $22.9 million free-agent deal with the Mavs after spending the first 10 years of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers. Jordan, of course, agreed to sign with Dallas in 2015, but had a change of heart and went back to the Clippers.

The Mavs have clearly forgiven Jordan and are ready for him to lead the team on the defensive end while also being a force in the paint on offense.

Carlisle says Jordan is going to be great.

“I was with him yesterday in LA,” Carlisle said Thursday at Team USA minicamp in Las Vegas. “I spent a couple of hours with him and had a real constructive visit with him. We worked on a few things. I’m just so excited that he’s on board with us. He’s going to be great.”

Jordan averaged 12.0 points and 15.2 rebounds in 77 games while shooting 64.5 percent from the field this past season. The 30-year-old is not expected to attend the Team USA minicamp.
