The Atlanta Hawks have signed free-agent shooting guard R.J. Hunter, according to a report from Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Hunter is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who was selected by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2015 draft. He hails from nearby Georgia State.
The Celtics waived Hunter after one season and after some time with the Chicago Bulls, he has mostly bounced around the G-League.
The Hawks are also signing veteran center Cole Aldrich to a training-camp contract, and the addition of Aldrich and Hunter will bring their camp roster to the maximum of 20.
“With 15 players on guaranteed salaries and Thomas Robinson and Aldrich among the non-guaranteed players also vying for roster spots, there likely won’t be room on the Hawks’ regular-season roster for Hunter,” Luke Adams of HoopsRumors wrote. “If he’s waived and opts to play in the G League for the 2018-19 season, he’ll suit up for Erie.”
