Report: Re-signing Noel is Mavs’ top priority

Mavericks center Nerlens Noel continues to search for a new contract.

The Dallas Mavericks are prioritizing re-signing big man Nerlens Noel this offseason, according to a report from ESPN.

Dallas is focused on developing their young core and building for the future, ESPN reported.

Noel was traded to the Mavericks at this year’s trade deadline by the Philadelphia 76ers.

In the 22 games with Dallas, he averaged 8.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while hitting 57.5 percent of his shots.

Noel, 23, is a restricted free agent — so even if another team does sign him, the Mavericks will have 15 days to match the offer. Some around the league believe this is indeed the process that will take place.
