There is no timetable set for injured Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Zhaire Smith to return from a broken foot, the team said Friday.
Smith underwent surgery on the foot Thursday night in New York. He suffered the injury during Tim Grgurich’s development camp in Las Vegas on Aug. 6.
The Sixers have had a long line of first-round picks missing time early in their careers with injuries — from Nerlens Noel to Joel Embiid to Ben Simmons to Markelle Fultz and now Smith.
Smith is 6-foot-5 and was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was immediately traded, along with the Miami Heat’s 2021 first round pick, to the Philadelphia 76ers for the draft rights to Mikal Bridges.
Smith spent one season at Texas Tech and averaged 11.3 points.
