Report: Magic trying to get to third pick

Luka Doncic was drafted by the Mavericks with the third overall pick.

The Orlando Magic have been aggressively trying to acquire the third overall pick in the draft from the Atlanta Hawks, according to a report from Sports Illustrated.

The Magic have the sixth overall pick and are offering that and at least one future first round pick to the Hawks in exchange for the third pick, per the report.

The belief is that Orlando is trying to move up to select Real Madrid’s Luka Doncic.

“Teams know this right now, they have to get to No. 3 to get Luka Doncic,” said Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN’s Wednesday evening draft coverage.

Doncic, the EuroLeague MVP, just finished playing in the Spanish ACB playoffs and will be in the green room during Thursday night’s draft. He’s 6-foot-7 and finished the season averaging 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists, shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 30.9 percent from three.

The Dallas Mavericks are also targeting Doncic and could make a deal with the Hawks as well. If Atlanta does end up moving down in the draft, they have interest in selecting Oklahoma point guard Trae Young.
