The Minnesota Timberwolves are ramping up their pursuit of Golden State Warriors guard D’Angelo Russell, according to Shams Charania and Jon Krawcznyski of The Athletic.
The Wolves completed a trade earlier in the day, sending veteran guard Jeff Teague and swingman Treveon Graham to the Atlanta Hawks for swingman Allen Crabbe.
Russell, 23, is averaging 23.3 points and 6.0 assists. He was a prime target of the Timberwolves in free agency but eventually ended up with the Warriors, as part of the Kevin Durant deal with Brooklyn.
He has been a trade candidate since the moment he landed with the Warriors, but they may be inclined to keep him until the summer, once their hard cap lifts in July.
Meanwhile, Timberwolves forward Robert Covington is said to be drawing interest from several contenders.
