The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, announced on Wednesday that Spain will donate 15 million vaccines against the Covid-19 virus to Latin America within the framework of the International Solidarity Mechanism Cofax, whose contribution so far committed to the region amounted to 22.5 million doses.

Sanchez intervenes through a video clip recorded at the virtual summit of the Gavi Covax AMC initiative, linked to the World Health Organization (WHO) and which aims to raise funds for the distribution of 1.8 billion vaccines among developing countries.

The CEO noted Spain’s commitments in fighting the epidemic and facilitating vaccination, as well as referring to the Spanish joint leadership in the ACT-Accelerator initiative.

It is an international collaboration tool that has accelerated the development, production, and provision of equitable access to diagnostic tests for this disease, treatments, and vaccines.

After insisting that no one will be safe from the pandemic until everyone is, Sanchez noted the defense that Spain also made in the European Union over the solidarity distribution of vaccines and its commitment not only to raise its patents, but also to expand and improve its production. distribute it.

Sanchez noted that Spain had already allocated 7.5 million doses of vaccines to Latin America as of July, when half of Spain’s population was already immunized, but today it announced a significant increase in this donation.

In addition, it announced an additional €50 million ($61 million) donation to the Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI). The Spanish governor stressed that “only with solidarity will we be able to overcome this crisis.”
