Peter Marshall, a 56-year-old man from Andover, Connecticut, has Alzheimer Which is why he forgets that he is married to Lisa, his wife of 12 years. Against this background, at the end of last year Peter introduces her again to the woman of his life and she, without disappointing him, gave again “Yes, I do.”
According to the story of 54-year-old Lisa Marshall, Washington PostPeter brought the wedding back to her when they were watching a wedding scene on a TV show in late 2020.
“Let’s do it!” Peter shouted, surprising his wife. And Lisa asked him, “What are you doing?”
Motionless, Peter was speechless and Lisa chose to point at the TV, asking, “Do you want to get married?”
Peter nodded with a smile and said, “Okay, well, then we should get married.”
The day after the proposal, Lisa told the aforementioned broker that Peter not only remembered what he had done, but also did not remember the first wedding. The man with a neurological illness treated his wife as a daily caregiver…and a favourite.
“It was devastating, but I did everything I could to stay positive and focus on one day at a time,” said Lisa Marshall, 54, who lives in Andover, Connecticut. “My motto has always been not to regret it.”
Peter Marshall suffers from early Alzheimer’s disease and his declining health convinced Lisa to accept a second wedding.
Peter Marshall has early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia that generally affects people between the ages of 30 and 60 and accounts for about 10 percent of Alzheimer’s cases overall.
According to Lisa’s testimony with the prestigious media outlet, her husband’s health began to deteriorate more rapidly in January 2021. Faced with this opposite scenario, the woman reconsidered the possibility of responding to Peter’s request.
That’s when I started thinking, ‘Maybe we should really do it,’ said Lisa, who later confirmed that her daughter, Sarah Bryant, had motivated her to renew her vows with her stepfather.
“I knew my stepfather, to whom I am very close, was present at some of the most difficult times of my life,” Bryant said. He acknowledged that “he (Peter) means a lot to me, and my mom is my best friend, so I was proud to be able to play such an important role.”
Bryant runs a wedding planning business and arranged for Lisa and Peter’s second wedding.
Committed to the cause, Bryant has taken advantage of her work as a wedding planner (because of her translation into Spanish) and has called the dozens of suppliers she works with regularly to ask if they would be interested in joining the project.
As the young woman confirmed to the Washington Post, all the providers she consulted volunteered to help out for free.
So on April 26, Bryant accompanied his mother Lisa down the aisle to marry Peter, his partner of 20 years, for the second time.
“It was magical, taken from a fairy tale,” Lisa told the above media,
“I haven’t seen Peter so happy in a long time,” admitted the woman, who made a gesture as noble as it was sentimental.
