Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain disrupted multiple outdoor concerts across New York City on Saturday, forcing organizers to cancel or postpone scheduled performances as dangerous weather moved through the region. Safety concerns tied to lightning, strong wind gusts, and the potential for flash flooding prompted venue officials to make last-minute decisions affecting thousands of concertgoers.
Noah Kahan’s Citi Field Performance Canceled Due to Weather
Noah Kahan’s scheduled concert at Citi Field in Queens was canceled shortly before doors were set to open on Saturday evening after venue officials spent much of the day monitoring rapidly changing weather conditions across the New York City area.
Earlier in the evening, organizers had announced plans to move forward with the event by eliminating the opening act and adjusting Kahan’s performance time. However, worsening forecasts ultimately led to the cancellation.
In a statement, Citi Field said:
“The show tonight at Citi Field has been canceled due to inclement weather. This was a very difficult decision to make, but the first priority is always to keep everyone safe.”
Forecasters warned that rain, thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts, and the possibility of flash flooding would continue through the night, creating unsafe conditions for an outdoor event.
No Makeup Date Announced for First Night of Two-Show Run
As of Saturday night, organizers had not announced a rescheduled date for the canceled performance.
The July 18 concert was intended to be the first of two consecutive shows at Citi Field. Noah Kahan, best known for the hit song “The Great Divide,” remains scheduled to perform at the stadium on Sunday, July 19, pending weather conditions.
Refund Information for Ticket Holders
Citi Field confirmed that fans who purchased tickets for the canceled show will receive refunds.
According to the venue, refunds are available through the original point of purchase. Customers who bought tickets through Ticketmaster will receive automatic refunds without needing to submit a request.
Zeds Dead Show at Forest Hills Stadium Also Postponed
The severe weather also affected another major concert just a few miles away.
Forest Hills Stadium in Queens postponed Saturday night’s performance by electronic music duo Zeds Dead because ongoing rain and additional storms prevented the production from being safely assembled.
The concert has been rescheduled for Aug. 14, and all previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date. Fans who cannot attend the rescheduled performance may also request refunds through their original point of purchase.
Zeds Dead Cites Safety and Production Challenges
In a statement released several hours before the scheduled performance, Zeds Dead explained that worsening weather made it impossible to safely proceed with the event.
“The weather is just being too difficult,” the duo said. “There’s another storm that’s supposed to move in and we can’t even build our production anyway with all the delays from the rain already.”
The group added that they had hoped the performance could continue if lightning and high winds stayed away, even if rain remained in the forecast, but ultimately concluded that canceling was the safest option.
“We have to be on the side of safety here,” the statement said.
Tour Continues After New York Weather Disruptions
Despite the weather-related postponement in New York, Zeds Dead’s Journey of a Lifetime Tour is scheduled to resume with its next performance in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 24.
Saturday’s cancellations highlight the challenges outdoor venues face during the summer storm season, when rapidly changing weather can force last-minute decisions. Venue officials emphasized that protecting artists, staff, and attendees remained the top priority as severe weather moved through the New York metropolitan area.
