The Vice President of Ecuador accepts the president’s appointment to travel to Tel Aviv as an ambassador for peace

(CNN in Spanish) — Ecuador’s Vice President, Veronica Abad, accepted President Daniel Noboa’s appointment to be a peace collaborator and traveled to Tel Aviv, but asked the president to sit down and talk to her as she was accused of waging a campaign against her.

The vice president’s statement on Tuesday came after the president announced on November 24 — one day after taking office — that Abad’s only mission in this administration would be to serve as an ambassador for peace in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. He should therefore be transferred to the Ecuadorian Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Abbad warned that even the United States, with all its efforts, was unable to solve this crisis that Israel is currently experiencing.

Although the Constitution of Ecuador stipulates that the President of the Republic will assign the tasks he deems appropriate to his vice president, this will be the first time in modern history that the president will appoint his vice president to govern outside the seat of government, which is located in the capital of the country.

Speaking to the press, Abbad also charged that the president’s communications team had previously asked him not to speak in front of citizens, and said that speculation that he refused to go to the inauguration luncheon and official photo was not true.

“I would have liked to be part of such events, but neither I nor my team were invited, so it does not mean that I have a different or different agenda, I am doing what Ecuador should do.”
