Chris Lyon, 27, discovered the coin dating back to 241 AD in Carr Mill Dam Park in St Helens, Merseyside, England, while recycling rubbish with his girlfriend Chelsea Marsden, 22.

At first, Chris thought the silver coin was a euro, so he put it in his pocket and headed home, but after cleaning up the mysterious object, he began to think that the corroded coin might be older than he originally imagined.
After Chris shared his discovery on Facebook, history fans were quick to point out that the coin, worth $50 (in Argentina, at Mercado Libre, a similar coin sells for $12,000), represents Gordian III, the Roman emperor who ruled England from 238 To 244.
Chris said: “I couldn't believe what was in front of me. What breaks my mind is that people sat there for thousands of years and never found it. “At first I thought it was a 5p coin, and it wasn't even buried,” he explained to the Daily Mail.
