Who we are – News – a statement by FIFA and the six confederations

In light of recent media speculation about the creation of the “European Super League” closed by some European clubs, FIFA and the six confederations (AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA) would like to reiterate and strongly affirm that such a competition will not be recognized. Either FIFA or the relevant confederation. As a result, no club or player participating in such a competition will be permitted to participate in any competition organized by FIFA or their confederation.

In accordance with the laws of FIFA and the confederations, all competitions must be organized or recognized by the relevant body at their respective levels, by FIFA at the global level and by the confederations at the continental level. In this regard, the confederations recognize the Club World Cup, in its current and new form, as the only club competition worldwide, while FIFA recognizes the club competitions organized by the confederations as the only continental club competition.

The universal principles of sporting merit, solidarity, promotion, relegation and delegation are the foundation of the football pyramid that guarantees the success of football at the global level and, as such, are enshrined in FIFA and federation laws. Football has a long and successful history thanks to these principles. Participation in global and continental competitions must always be won on the field.
