The state requires the Central American Bank to conduct feasibility studies for an electric train

The Dominican Republic wants to study the possibility of building an electric train and for these purposes has requested the Central American Bank to conduct feasibility studies for the new railway system.

Studies will determine the feasibility of a freight and passenger rail network, and the proposal has been submitted by the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Finance, according to information published on the international banking entity’s website.

The Bank’s CEO, Dante Mussi, met with the Minister of Finance, José Manuel Vicente, to learn about the opportunities, operations and programs this entity is developing across the region.

“At the regional level, this project joins the initiative in which national actions have already been identified in Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala and seeks to contribute to the social, economic and comprehensive development of countries in the region, in addition to strengthening economic cooperation,” Moussa said.

With this first step, the bank plans to present studies that will determine the feasibility of the project that expects, among other benefits, to increase levels of transportation security, reduce travel times and switch to more environmentally sustainable systems.

In October 2020, President Louis Abenadir expressed his interest in continuing to change the transportation system, and said that it would give continuity to rail projects not only in the Dominican capital but also in Santiago.
