    High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Policy Joseph Borrell today asked current Bolivian officials that charges against former interim President Jeanine ez and several of his former ministers have been withheld for the 2019 events.

    His words were made public when it was learned that former Bolivian interim leader Jeanine Áñez (2019-2020) had addressed letters to the Organization of American States (OAS) and representatives of the European Union (EU) in Bolivia on Saturday. He demanded the presence of a surveillance mission to “objectively assess” his detention.

    The letters were delivered by OAS Secretary-General Louis Almacro and EU Ambassador to Bolivia Michael Taxi, one of which he condemned. “Systematic human rights violations by the worst political persecution in Bolivia”.

    The former interim president of Bolivia and several of his former ministers were arrested yesterday morning in Beni’s Amazon field and charged with “treason and terrorism” during the 2019 crisis, which led to the resignation of Evo Morales as president.
