The Canton Charge pulled off a trade Thursday and moved up in the draft.
Officially, the Cavaliers’ G League affiliate sent guard Kobi Simmons and the 14th overall pick in the G League draft to the Greensboro Swarm for guard Jaylen Barford and the 12th overall pick.
“We are excited to acquire the rights of a dynamic scorer and athlete like Jaylen, plus move up a couple slots in the draft as well,” Charge general manager Brendon Yu said. “We wish Kobi the best as he continues his basketball journey.”
Simmons actually agreed to a training camp deal with the Hornets a couple weeks ago. With Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham as the only point guards on the roster, Simmons may have a shot to make the team.
The 6-foot-4 Simmons appeared in one game with the Cavs last season and 32 with the Memphis Grizzlies as a rookie in 2017-18.
Meanwhile, Barford is 6-3 and attended training camp with the Hornets last season. He averaged 17.7 points on 44 percent shooting in 47 games with the Swarm.
