Projected second overall pick Morant to meet with Knicks

Murray State product Ja Morant is widely considered the top point guard entering the draft.

Murray State point guard and top-three draft prospect Ja Morant will meet with the New York Knicks on Thursday, according to Jordan Schultz of ESPN.

“This comes on the heels of the team spending two days with (Duke forward) R.J, Barrett,” Schultz reported.

Most traditionally reliable mock drafts have the Morant being selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the No. 2 overall selection. But reports have suggested the Grizzlies are keeping their options open — or at least trying to give the impression they are.

It is believed Barrett wants to fall to No. 3 to the Knicks, as opposed to going to a spot higher by the Grizzlies. Barrett’s Duke teammate, Zion Williamson, is projected to be taken by the New Orleans Pelicans at No. 1 overall.

Morant’s meeting with the Knicks will take place in New York, Schultz wrote.

Morant recently underwent minor surgery on his right knee. He met with the Grizzlies over the weekend and is said to be hopeful he is selected by Memphis.
