School closings in New York and New Jersey – Telemundo New York (47)

The most anticipated event of the year is just around the corner.

A total solar eclipse is coming up this coming Monday, April 8th, and our area will be the scene to enjoy it.

Because of the magnitude of the event, which required safety measures to protect eyes, some schools in New York and New Jersey followed state recommendations to close early to avoid harm to children outside. The timing of the celestial event and will be without protection.

In New York, visitors are invited to areas where an avalanche is expected, and a partial eclipse is rarely visible in the city.

In New Jersey, at least 4 school districts allow dismissal of students at 1:30 p.m.

Here are some of the schools that are undergoing changes:

New Jersey

  1. Shore Regional High School District in Monmouth County:Students will be dismissed at 1:30 pm on April 8 due to the solar eclipse, according to a school press release. They also canceled extracurricular activities during the eclipse.
  2. Livingston School District in Essex County: And they announced layoffs earlier in the day.
  3. Pennsauken School District: The Director has mentioned in the letter that on April 8, all students will have classes till noon and sports and extracurricular activities will be cancelled.
  4. Cherry Hill Public Schools Community: In a letter Notify parents of changes to dismissal times for eclipse day. PreK-5 grades are dismissed at 1 p.m., grades 6-8 at 12:15 p.m., and grades 9-12 at 11:45 a.m.
  5. The Beach Zone High School District, based in Long Branch, will close at 1:30 p.m. It was written in a letter.

NY

  • The Buffalo City School District, the state's second largest district, will be on holiday.
  • Niagara Falls City School District and Lockport City School District: Canceled classes.
  • Liverpool Central School District will be closed on the day of the eclipse.
  • Niagara Falls City School District: Classes are canceled.
  • Lockport City School District: Classes are canceled.
  • Liverpool Central School District will close campus on eclipse day.
