The World Science Day for Peace and Development was proclaimed at the 2001 UNESCO General Conference. With this observance, a renewed international commitment to science and its development was primarily sought.

It was proposed at the World Congress of Sciences, held in Budapest in 1999. Here it was decided that the creation of this date would create an opportunity to annually reaffirm the will to achieve the scientific goals and recommendations already agreed upon.

These points underscore the importance of science and its international commitment to improving life on this planet. In 2021, the celebration focuses on the importance of “Creating societies that are prepared for climate change“.

The UNESCO Prepare for World Science Day for Peace and Development 2021, to organize a digital seminar in which seminars will be launched on “Solutions for Building Climate Ready Societies” and “Global Health in a Changing Environment”.

This event will also benefit from a presentation by the winner of the UNESCO Kalinga Prize for Scientific Publishing.
