Capela’s meeting with Rockets didn’t go as he was expecting it to

Clint Capela‘s initial free agent meeting with the Houston Rockets didn’t go as he was expecting it to and there’s a chance the big man could play on his qualifying offer for 2018-19 and become a unrestricted free agent next summer, according to ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne.

Capela is currently a restricted free agent, meaning he’s eligible to sign an offer sheet with another team and then the Rockets have to decide if they want to match the offer or not.

“From what I understand, his initial meeting with the Rockets didn’t go as he was expecting it to,” Shelburne said. “There’s not a big long-term offer out here that he feels comfortable signing right now. He’s been talking to other teams. The problem is nobody really has the cap space to make a compelling offer to make Houston nervous that he could potentially leave or even to match that offer sheet.”

In 74 games this past season with the Rockets, Capela averaged 13.9 points and 10.8 rebounds while shooting 65.2 percent from the field. Most of his baskets were delivered by MVP James Harden.

Capela met with the Los Angeles Lakers on July 1.
