Free agent big man and former No. 2 overall draft pick Emeka Okafor intends to sign a 10-day contract with the New Orleans Pelicans, according to a report from Yahoo Sports.
Per the report:
Okafor, 35, last played for the Washingtpon Wizards in 2013, when he suffered a herniated disk injury and underwent multiple years of rehabilitation. The 6-foot-10 center has worked out for teams over the past couple years, but signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in training camp and has played for their G League affiliate in Delaware this season.
Okafor was named Rookie of the Year in 2005, after the then-Charlotte Bobcats selected him with the second overall draft pick behind Dwight Howard.
Okafor is averaging 6.9 points and 8.0 rebounds in 26 games in the G League.
The Pelicans acquired forward Nikola Mirotic from the Chicago Bulls earlier this week after losing center DeMarcus Cousins for the season with an Achilles tear.
