The LeBron James-to-the-Knicks talk has been around for eight years and according to a report, it will amp up even more this summer.
According to the New York Post, with New York hiring former Memphis coach and Miami assistant David Fizdale on Thursday, the Knicks are prepping to clear salary-cap space if they believe James would consider calling Madison Square Garden home after he declines his $35.6 player option with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as expected, this summer.
James is known to be a big fan of Fizdale, who served as an assistant with the Heat from 2008 to 2016. James spent four seasons with the Heat, 2011 through 2014, reaching four consecutive NBA Finals, winning a pair of championships, in 2012 and 2013.
The three-time NBA champion and four-time NBA MVP, James was not happy when the Grizzlies fired FIzdale in November. When he became aware of the reported rift between Fizdale and center Marc Gasol, the Grizzlies’ franchise player, James said, “Maybe that’s what it was — because (Fizdale) ain’t gonna kid nobody’s ass, I know that.”
