Are Knicks planning to make Fizdale pitch to LeBron?

LeBron James is expected to be a free agent this summer, and the Knicks are said to be among the interested.

The LeBron James-to-the-Knicks talk has been around for eight years and according to a report, it will amp up even more this summer.

According to the New York Post, with New York hiring former Memphis coach and Miami assistant David Fizdale on Thursday, the Knicks are prepping to clear salary-cap space if they believe James would consider calling Madison Square Garden home after he declines his $35.6 player option with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as expected, this summer.

James is known to be a big fan of Fizdale, who served as an assistant with the Heat from 2008 to 2016. James spent four seasons with the Heat, 2011 through 2014, reaching four consecutive NBA Finals, winning a pair of championships, in 2012 and 2013.

The three-time NBA champion and four-time NBA MVP, James was not happy when the Grizzlies fired FIzdale in November. When he became aware of the reported rift between Fizdale and center Marc Gasol, the Grizzlies’ franchise player, James said, “Maybe that’s what it was — because (Fizdale) ain’t gonna kid nobody’s ass, I know that.”

Well according to Shaq, he’s going to LA with PG. So I guess the Knicks are out of luck.

Is it possible to get paul george to come to cleveland with our salary cap? Is it me, or does clarkson run around like a chicken with his head cut off? We need another guy who can handle the ball and drive to the basket.

    • Hey, Brett.. it depends on what George wants. If he wants to do what Kyrie did, he’ll be a Laker, for sure. If winning, on the other hand, is first and foremost in his mind, why not Cleveland, should LeBron stay put? Gilbert has proven over and over he will pay whatever it takes, so the ball is really in George’s court.

  3. The cavaliers have ten players signed to contracts next season, not including their 1st round draft pick. The total payroll is approximately $104 million which is above the salary cap so they are limited in free agent contracts they may offer. The total value of the contracts of: love, thompson, smith, hill, clarkson is about $85 million. The only maximum contract they may offer is for james as that contract is exempt from rules about not exceeding the salary cap as teams are allowed to sign their own players that recently became free agents to contracts no matter how great they exceed the luxury tax limit. The knicks and rockets would require major restructuring to their payroll to sign james to a maximum contract.
