Camp Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas
Coach: Rick Carlisle, 14 years (eight years with Mavericks), 661-471 overall.
Last Season: 42-40, lost to Oklahoma City in first round of the playoffs.
Key Returnees: Dirk Nowitzki, Wesley Matthews, JJ Barea, Deron Williams, Devin Harris, Dwight Powell, Justin Anderson, Salah Mejri.
Key Additions: Harrison Barnes (Golden State), Andrew Bogut (Golden State), Quincy Acy (Sacramento), Seth Curry (Sacramento), AJ Hammons (rookie, Purdue), Kyle Collinsworth (rookie, Brigham Young).
Key Losses: Chandler Parsons (Memphis), Raymond Felton (LA Clippers), David Lee (San Antonio), Jeremy Evans (Indiana), JaVale McGee (Golden State), Zaza Pachulia (Golden State), Charlie Villanueva (free agent).
Outlook: Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut may be the pieces that keep Dirk Nowitzki going. At least, that’s what the Mavs hope. Barnes is an underrated defender and shooter who may get a chance to flourish in a new setting. Bogut is among the league’s finest protectors of the rim. Nowitzki is old, but not washed up. So the frontline appears set. Rick Carlisle and the Mavs only need to address some depth concerns, but that’s the purpose of camp. Bottom line: This is a veteran team with sleeper potential.
