Camp Location: Pistons Practice Facility, Auburn Hills, Mich.
Coach: Stan Van Gundy, 10 years, two years with Pistons; 447-296
Last Season: 44-38, lost to Cleveland in first round of playoffs.
Key Returnees: Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, Tobias Harris, Marcus Morris, Stanley Johnson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Reggie Bullock, Aron Baynes, Lorenzo Brown, Darrun Hilliard.
Key Additions: Henry Ellenson (rookie, Marquette), Jon Leuer (Phoenix), Ish Smith (Philadelphia), Boban Marjanovic (San Antonio), Ray McCallum (free agent).
Key Losses: Jodie Meeks (Orlando), Anthony Tolliver (Sacramento), Steve Blake (free agent), Spencer Dinwiddie (Chicago), Joel Anthony (San Antonio).
Outlook: Not surprisingly, Stan Van Gundy has the Pistons’ attention and quickly improving. Last season, they sort of resembled Van Gundy’s old Orlando teams, with Andre Drummond playing the Pistons’ version of a younger Dwight Howard. Van Gundy’s guys play hard, play smart and make progress. These Pistons are doing exactly that. Reggie Jackson, Marcus Morris and Tobias Harris are among the other big reasons for the Pistons to keep believing. Eventually, Van Gundy will take this team places, and it may be sooner than a lot of folks expect. That’s just the Van Gundy way.
