Akron center Isaiah Johnson has been named MAC East Division Player of the Week for his play Dec. 20-27, league officials announced Tuesday.
Johnson is 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds and hails from Cincinnati. He helped the Zips (9-2) to a pair of wins at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas — as they defeated UC Santa Barbara and Iona.
Johnson was named Classic MVP afterposting a double-double in the final game.
Against UCSB, Johnson tallied 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and grabbed six rebounds en route to the 84-70 win. He also collected a season-best four assists and three blocked shots.
Against Iona, Johnson recorded his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 boards in the 78-64 victory.
For the week, he averaged 13.5 points per game on 12-of-16 shooting with 16 rebounds, five blocked shots, five assists, and a steal.
