Did ‘The Simpsons’ win with the inauguration of Biden and Harris?
Does “The Simpsons” predict the future? 1:22

(CNN) – First things first: No, “The Simpsons” cannot predict the future.

As the longest running comedy in American history, the timeless series is often lined up with “following the art of living” moments that occur many years after it aired.

For example, this week, social media users pointed to the recent rivalry between Vice President Kamala Harris’ outfit and Lisa Simpson in the 2000 episode during the ceremony.

In “Part to the Future,” Lisa accepts the presidency and says a few words that have now gone viral: “You know, we’ve got a big budget crisis from President Trump.”

Kamala Harris was acquired by The Simpsons

Social media users noted the similarities between the outfit of Vice President Kamala Harris during the inauguration and the outfit of Lisa Simpson in the 2000 episode.

In the episode, Lisa was wearing a purple jacket and pearls. At Wednesday’s ceremony, Harris wore a purple jacket and pearls. Observer comparisons came easily as Harris took office shortly after Donald Trump became president.

The similarities with the inauguration did not end there for “The Simpsons” fans. Actor Tom Hanks hosted a virtual concert on Wednesday night with the aim of following President Joe Biden’s theme of national unity in times of crisis.

In 2007’s “The Simpsons: The Movie”, Hanks promotes the proposed new Grand Canyon in a cameo in Simpson’s hometown of Springfield.

“Hello. I’m Tom Hanks. The U.S. government has lost its credibility, so it borrows a portion of mine,” he says.

At the end of the scene, “If you’ve going to choose a government you can trust, why not?”

Speculations about the show’s prophetic abilities are nothing new. Followers claim to have predicted events such as the tiger attack on Siegfried and Roy, smart watches, “killer hornets” and Disney’s purchase of 20th century Fox.

The show has seemed a bit unfocused in recent episodes, including “The South Park” episode and “The Simpsons Already Did”.

When asked about Donald Trump’s presidential prediction so far in advance, writer Don Greene told The Hollywood Reporter: “This is a warning to the United States.”

It seemed like the last logical stop before hitting the rock bottom. It was started because it was similar to America’s vision of going crazy, “he added.
