DMX rapper is receiving honors from LeBron James and others in sports

Earl Simmons, a rapper, songwriter, and actor known as DMX, passed away Friday at the age of 50.

DMX, who became famous in the early 1990s, died after suffering a heart attack early last week.

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that one of our family members, DMX, whose birth name is Earl Simmons, has died at the age of 50 at White Plains Hospital with his family at his side after being on resuscitation for the past few days.” The family said in a statement. “Earl was a warrior who fought to the end.”

Teams, athletes, stadiums and arenas used to use DMX songs, and were known for their deep, aggressive vocals and charismatic, lively beats. His distinctive rough voice was instantly recognized in his hit songs “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” and “Party Up (Up in Here)”.

Athletes have taken to social media to express their condolences over the death of DMX, including LeBron James And former NFL star Tory Smith.
