Free agent forward Anthony working out with Nets players

Ten-time All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony finished the regular season in search of a place to play.

Free agent forward Carmelo Anthony has been taking part in informal workouts with several members of the Brooklyn Nets, leading to speculation he could potentially sign with the team, according to Ian Begley and Anthony Puccio of SNY.tv.

The workouts are taking place in Los Angeles, per the report.

“If they were interested in signing Anthony, the Nets would need to waive a player to sign the 35-year-old to a traditional NBA deal,” Begley and Puccio reported. “Brooklyn has 15 players under guaranteed contracts.”

Anthony appeared in just 10 games with the Houston Rockets last season before agreeing to part ways with the franchise. He was traded to the Chicago Bulls in January then waived a short time later.

The 10-time All-Star has been linked to several teams, most recently the New York Knicks. But a reunion with the franchise no longer appears to be a possibility.

“As SNY reported in June, the Knicks may have had interest in a reunion with Anthony if they had a roster with multiple stars, such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, ready to win immediately,” Begley and Puccio reported.

Anthony averaged 13.4 points with the Rockets before it was determined he was not a fit. He has also spent time with the Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
