John Travolta offers his mansion in Maine for sale

Islesboro, Maine. A Maine mansion that actor John Travolta shared with his now deceased wife, actress Kelly Preston, is for sale.

The 67-year-old “Grace” and “Saturday Night Fever” star has offered the house on Islesboro off the coast of Maine for sale for $ 5 million, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The couple bought the house in 1991 when they first married and remodeled it from a “very dark and bleak” home into a bright family home for their son Jett, according to a 1999 report in Architectural Digest. The 1,000-square-meter (10,830 sq ft) home was built in 1903 and has 20 rooms and sits on 19 hectares (48 acres) along the ocean.

Travolta told Architectural Digest that he and Preston bought the house after visiting actress Kirstie Alley at her home on the island. The couple said they always wanted to own a home big enough to host dozens of family members.

Preston, who starred opposite Tom Cruise in “Jerry Maguire” and Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Twins,” died last year after losing a two-year battle with breast cancer. He was 57 years old. Their first son, Jett, died in 2009 after suffering an epileptic seizure at the family’s vacation home in the Bahamas.

Travolta became a Hollywood star in the 1970s and was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in “Saturday Night Fever”. He was nominated again for his role in “Pulp Fiction” in 1994.
