Melina Calderon is sent to trial for alleged illicit enrichment

Former ARENA MP sent to civil trial by Supreme Court, $2,316,270.16 discrepancy she couldn’t explain

The former deputy and former mayor of the ARENA party, Melina Calderón Sol de Escalon, was referred to a civil trial by the Supreme Court of Justice, after an investigation in which indicators of illicit enrichment were identified.

By a majority of 12 votes and 15 possible votes, the full court noted on September 21 of this year that the former official was unable to justify an amount amounting to $2,316,270.16.

Calderon Sol de Escalon was vice-owner from 2012 to 2015, and in a second term that lasted until 2018.

Later, the official became Mayor of Santa Ana, from 2018 to 2021.

Initially, authorities reported that 163 discrepancies were found in the administration of Calderon Sol de Escalon, generating an amount of US$4,004,166.54; But during this process, the former official would have been able to justify and reduce part of this amount.
