El Nuevo Diario, Santo Domingo – The National District Mayor’s Office, in coordination with the Directorate of Public Spaces and Urban Cleaning, carried out an operation to restore public spaces in several streets and sidewalks in the Villa Consuelo sector, which for many years have been used as depositories by various companies for their commercial benefit.

This intervention was implemented in response to requests from the community, which requested that pedestrians be allowed to move freely and safely.

In this process, four carpentry centers that were operating informally in these areas were intervened.

Before the start of the process, the Director of Public Spaces, José Anibal Sanz, together with the Aseo Urbano administration and other representatives of the City Council, held a meeting with neighborhood associations and business owners.

During the meeting, companies were urged to adhere to the provisions of the law prohibiting the use of sidewalks as part of their commercial activities.

Businesses in the area were notified five days in advance, in accordance with current legislation. The operation was carried out on Friday, on the streets of Hermanos Pinzón, Felipe Vicini Perdomo, Máximo Grullon and Baltazar Alvarez, with the aim of making the sidewalks more passable and safe for the community.

Article 179 of Law 176-07 of the National Region and Municipalities clearly states that assets of the public domain are those allocated by the city council for public use or service.

Among these assets are streets, squares, parks and other public spaces that should be available for community use and enjoyment.

Cruz Florentino Olivares, owner of a Jacuzzi company, called on merchants and the community in general to cooperate in improving Villa Consuelo, and to contribute to keeping public spaces clean and free of obstacles, noting that although the mayor’s office collects waste, it is everyone’s responsibility. Joselito Velez, a resident of the community, expressed his support for the measures implemented by the National District Mayor’s Office, highlighting that these measures will benefit all residents of the sector, especially adults and children who will now be able to walk safely. Sidewalks.
