With Kemba on the way, Celtics to renounce rights to Rozier

The Celtics will renounce their rights to Terry Rozier on Sunday.

With the imminent signing of All-Star point guard Kemba Walker expected Sunday, the Boston Celtics will renounce their rights to guard Terry Rozier, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo.

Rozier would then hit unrestricted free agency Sunday night.

With Kyrie Irving sidelined for the playoffs in the 2016-17 season with recurring knee problems, Rozier took off, averaging 16.5 opined, 5.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 36.6 minutes in 19 postseason games, all starts. He shot 40.6 percent from the field, 34.7 percent beyond the 3-point arc and 82.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Irving returned this season and Rozier’s numbers took a significant hit, in both the regular season and the playoffs.

In nine games off the bench this spring, Rozier averaged 6.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 18.0 minutes, with a shooting line of 32.2/23.5/75.0.
